AP Exam Coaching
Thinking about taking AP Economics? Career Nirnaya offers both the counselling to decide if it's the right exam for your goals, and the subject coaching to prepare for it — led by Dr. Kavita Ratia, who holds a PhD in Business Finance and Economics.
Contact Us About AP EconomicsAP Economics is two separate College Board exams: AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics. Each takes about 2 hours 10 minutes, is scored from 1 to 5, and is held every May. Students in India can take them at authorised AP test centres. Career Nirnaya first checks whether AP Economics suits your goals, then coaches you through the official syllabus and exam technique with Dr. Kavita Ratia.
AP (Advanced Placement) Economics is a pair of College Board exams, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, that many US universities use for college credit or course placement. You can take one or both. They're a common choice for students applying to US colleges, or anyone with a strong interest in economics, commerce, or business who wants to show they can handle college-level coursework.
There are no formal prerequisites. Students who have studied economics in Class 11 or 12 (CBSE, ICSE, IB, or state boards) will recognise many topics, but the AP exams test them with more graphs, more applied reasoning, and a US-style question format.
Both AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics follow the same structure:
The free-response section has one long question and two short ones, and nearly all of them ask you to draw and label graphs correctly. Many colleges award credit for a score of 3 or higher, while selective universities often look for a 4 or 5. Credit policies vary by university, so always check each college's own AP policy.
Each course is organised into six units in the College Board's official course framework:
Individual consumers, firms, and markets.
The economy as a whole.
Which one first? Many students find Microeconomics the gentler starting point because its graphs are about single markets. Students who follow current affairs, such as inflation, RBI interest-rate decisions, or the rupee exchange rate, often find Macroeconomics more intuitive. The counselling session helps decide whether one or both exams make sense for you.
Before any exam prep, Dr. Kavita Ratia reviews your academic goals and profile to confirm AP Economics is actually the right exam for you — not every student needs it.
Structured preparation across the official AP Economics curriculum (Micro and Macro), covering core concepts, exam technique, and practice questions.
Focused practice on drawing, labelling, and explaining the graphs that free-response questions depend on, which is where many students lose easy marks.

Most students prepare alongside school over several months. A common plan for a May exam looks like this, adjusted to each student's starting point:
Confirm AP Economics fits your goals, choose Micro, Macro, or both, and find an authorised AP test centre. Registration usually closes months before the exam.
Work through the six units of each course, building a reliable set of graphs and definitions as you go.
Timed multiple-choice sets and free-response questions, with feedback on graph labelling and written explanations.
Full-length practice under exam conditions, then targeted revision of weak units.
Scores are released by the College Board in July and can be sent to universities.
